Transition Basketball by Greg McDermott
There is a saying that if you score more then 10 point in transition, that most likely you are going to win the game. If your team is really playing good in transition, it means that they have good handles and passing, good timing and good decision making.
This drill that Coach McDermott does with his team is not just practicing the transition offense, but at the same time it improves the transition defense.
Divide team into 2 teams of 5, and let them stand on the baseline and on the free throw line just as shown in the picture.
Team on the baseline is offense, the team on the free throw line is defense.
The defense team is then divided into 3 mini teams. 1, 2, and 3. Depending on what kind of drill do you want to do, 5 on 4, 5 on 3 or 5 on 2, while giving the ball to the offense you will shout witch defensive mini group has to run towards the baseline and then try to take part in defending the basket. Offense must execute in 12 seconds.
