Andy Landers
Andy Landers is a highly successful and respected basketball coach, who has spent over four decades at the University of Georgia, where he led the women's basketball team to numerous NCAA tournament appearances, SEC regular season and tournament championships, and Final Four appearances. He is considered one of the pioneers of women's college basketball, and his impact on the sport has been felt throughout the years.
Landers began his coaching career at Georgia in 1979, and in his time there, he has built the program into one of the most successful and consistent in the country. His teams have made 34 NCAA tournament appearances, and his Georgia teams have reached the Sweet Sixteen round of the tournament 20 times, which is the most by any active coach in NCAA Division I women's basketball. His teams also won SEC regular season titles eight times, and SEC tournament titles five times.
During his tenure, Coach Landers also lead his teams to win multiple Final Four appearances, in 1983, 1985, 1995 and 1996. He was also the SEC Coach of the Year five times, and the national coach of the year twice.
Off the court, Landers has been a tireless advocate for women's basketball, and has worked to improve opportunities and resources for female student-athletes. He has served on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association Board of Directors, and was a founding member of the Association of Collegiate Women's Basketball Coaches. He also has served as a member of the NCAA Women’s Basketball Committee, which oversees the administration of the national championship tournament.
As of 2021, Landers is among the most successful coaches of all time in the women's college basketball with a record of 862–352, his teams has reached NCAA tournament 31 times, 20 sweet sixteen and 4 final fours, those numbers demonstrate his excellence as a coach.
