Smith took over the program at Georgia at promptly took the Bulldogs to two straight NCAA tournaments in his two seasons in Athens.
He took over Kentucky in 1997 and won the NCAA title in his first season with the Wildcats. He took his Kentucky teams to six total Sweet Sixteens and four Elite Eights before moving on. He spent six seasons in Minnesota and three at Texas Tech earning a total of four NCAA berths at schools not known for their basketball prowess.
