Bruce Pearl's late game and late clock situations are considered huge opportunities for his team. As an introduction, the Volunteer early offense is broken down piece by piece. The key to this attack is the optimization of each player's ability on different parts of the floor. This read & react full court offense takes advantage of all defensive decisions and coverages. Two reliable options in this offense are based on ball screen calls. The first play is a high screen and roll for the post creating an inside seal opportunity for the post player. Another play is the high screen and pop. This option spreads the floor 4 out/1 in and can easily flow into continuity half court offense. From the baseline out of bounds, Pearl unleashes five unique set plays from the 1-4 set. Execution of this OB series will produce a lob lay-up, switch seal, hi/low seal, high/low back screen and post pin. The box set alignment creates five variations that can all lead to baskets. The pin down screen frees the point guard on top of the floor. The options occur with penetration, down screens and slip screens.
